Disneyland plans to add new attractions

Despite being closed for more than a year, Walt Disney Co is planning an expansion of sorts at its Anaheim resort.

It will comprise new attractions, retail stores and restaurants.

The DisneylandForward project is in its early stages and the company expects to present a final plan to the Anaheim City Council for approval by 2023.

It has not been spooked by the huge fall in revenue due to the pandemic.

"Now is the time to be bold, to dream, to believe," says Ken Potrock, President Disneyland Resort.

The development will be able to meet ‘the future demands in entertainment,’ the company says.

"With these updated approvals, Disneyland Resort can continue to invest and be an industry leader."

It will not be adding any new land but would require making certain zoning changes that would allow for mixed-use development.

It is seeking flexibility to be able to add attractions, hotel rooms, retail, and dining on the east and west edges of the Disneyland resort.

"I welcome fresh thinking about how the Disneyland Resort evolves and how we best maximize this resource for our city,” said Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu.

Disneyland is set to reopen at limited capacity at the end of April.
