EasyJet shifts flights from UK to Germany
Having cancelled services in response to continued travel curbs in the UK, easyJet is shifting capacity to Europe.
It has started moving aircraft from the UK to Germany with Palma, Mallorca flights departing Berlin instead.
"With 50% of easyJet’s flying intra-Europe, we are seeing European governments are progressively opening up using frameworks in place which enable travel and much of it restriction-free," easyJet said.
"This relaxation and removal of restrictions has sparked a positive booking momentum across Europe, with the majority of our bookings showing a strong swing towards Europe when in normal times it would be a 50/50 split with the UK."
The airline said over the past week it has added 150,000 more seats to its intra-European network.
Travel industry officials around Europe don’t expect any major airlift out of England to Europe’s main resort destinations until August.
After Portugal was downgraded, there are no major mass market holiday destinations currently on the green list.
Like Portugal, Spain is on the amber list.
"Europe is demonstrating that a safe reopening of travel is possible and so we continue to urge the UK government to do so urgently," the airline added.
