EasyJet still online leader
EasyJet was the clear leader in the UK online transport sector at the end of last year according to the latest statistics from Hitwise. The no-frills airline notched up a 14.4% share of visits to UK transport sites in the month of December. Despite continuous online offers, Ryanair couldn’t push its share of UK visits to transport websites above 8.3%, leaving it second behind its no-frills rival. British Airways was fourth with a 6.3% share. A spokesperson for BA told TravelMole the carrier is now selling about 46% of its shorthaul non-premium point-to-point tickets online. With the exception of British Airways, traditional schedule carriers were notable by their absence from the top ten transport websites. Despite the problems affecting the UK rail network, three train websites appeared in the top ten. National Rail (7.1%) was third, thetrainline.com (4.2%) was fifth and thetrainlinestore.com (3.4%) was seventh.
