EasyJet to launch new agent-only product
EasyJet is planning the launch of a new product aimed at business travellers, which will be available exclusively through travel agents later this month.
Sources close to the airline said the product was part of the airline’s bid to make its flights more attractive to business travellers and lure them away from the traditional airlines.
EasyJet general manager Paul Simmons said he could not comment on new product launches, but he admitted the airline was looking for corporate travellers to make up a greater share of its total traffic.
At the moment, one in five of its passengers is travelling on business. "We’d like to grow that to 25% of our traffic," added Simmons. "We’d like to attract more business travellers on our flights to major cities, such as Berlin and Madrid and on UK domestic routes."
EasyJet spokesman Andrew McConnell added: "EasyJet might have started as a leisure airline offering flights for the cost of a pair of jeans, but now it is a very serious competitor in the business travel market."
His comments came as rival low-cost carrier Flybe announced a £500,000 advertising campaign to grow its share of the business travel market.
