Educational travel firm Road Scholar taps Open Destinations for new software

Tuesday, 01 Dec, 2016 0
Leading not-for-profit educational travel company Road Scholar has struck a strategic partnership with UK technology specialist Open Destinations for their flagship software Travel Studio.

The program will provide Boston-based Road Scholar with advanced functionality for their land and cruise itineraries in more than 150 countries.

‘Travel Studio is providing us with a business framework for the long term. We think of our application portfolio as a jigsaw puzzle, with the Travel Studio back office solution at the center of that puzzle," said Eric Bird, SVP for Information Technology and chief information officer at Road Scholar.

The adoption of the Travel Studio software is the culmination of four months of detailed business analysis with Open Destinations to ensure compatibility.

The program includes complex travel packaging, a contracting module and API integration with third party systems including Expedia, Miki Travel and Travalco.

Travel Studio is being integrated across Road Scholar’s office network including the headquarters and call centre in Massachusetts, a travel services division in Vermont and offices in the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand.

‘We are delighted to be expanding our footprint in North America. We’ve been providing software to tour operators and wholesalers in this market for over 15 years, and we have a deep understanding of their needs in the marketplace," said Open Destinations CEO Kevin O’Sullivan.

Road Scholar is a leading adult educational travel service offering about 500 learning trips in 150 countries and 50 states.

As a not-for-profit entity, it offers financial assistance for participants.

Open Destinations’ software supports more than 85 million travel searches per day and counts brands such as Abercrombie & Kent, Rocky Mountaineer Vacations and Belmond among its clients.
