Egypt Update: Tour companies cancel trips
Tour companies have begun to cancel trips to Egypt or offer full refunds for those who do not wish to travel on scheduled departures.
Hundreds have been killed in violence in Cairo and elsewhere in the country.
The government has closed tourist sites for an indefinite period as a precaution. There is also a night curfew in force from 7pm to 6am.
Tempo Holidays will offer its passengers who are scheduled to arrive in Egypt up to September 30 a full refund of services should they decide not to travel.
Company secretary Nigel Loveday said the company would review the situation beyond this date as more information became available.
"After appraising the situation, we are advising passengers due to arrive in Egypt over the next week, at least, to reconsider their plans to travel to the destination."
All Intrepid, Peregrine and Geckos trips in Egypt up to and including September 30 have been cancelled.
All affected passengers will receive a full refund of ground trip costs or the option to book an alternate trip without any amendment fees.
The Intrepid Group said it hopes to run trips departing in October "but appreciate that some passengers may be concerned about travelling then and are therefore offering transfers to another trip without amendment fees".
