El Al flight from New York escorted by fighter jets after bomb scare

Saturday, 05 Jul, 2016 0
An El Al flight from New York was escorted over European airspace by military jets following reports of a bomb threat.

The plane landed safely at Tel Aviv Ben-Gurion Airport after both France and Switzerland scrambled jets after an anonymous tip was received.

El Al released a statement saying no explosives were found on the Boeing 747.

The tip centered on the planting of a bomb hidden in a kitchen aboard the plane but nothing was found, officials from the Israel Foreign Ministry said.

No further details were disclosed and it is thought passengers on the flight were unaware of the drama while in the air.
