Emirates fined by China for violating air safety
Emirates has been fined by China for two incidents violating air safety.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China for Xinjiang and central and southern China slapped the airline with a fine of 29,000 yuan ($4,270).
It relates to two separate incidents where it flew at the wrong altitude in April and a month later the airline’s radio communications were cut off.
In addition, the Dubai-based airline is banned from adding new routes in China for six months.
Emirates said it is fully cooperating with aviation officials in China and is starting its own internal enquiry.
“Safety is our number one priority at all times. Emirates fully complies with the CAAC’s requirements on all our flight operations to China,” it said.
Emirates operates 38 weekly flights to five cities in China and a ban on route expansion is a blow as it is seeing huge demand.
The airline recently announced plans to upgrade flights to Beijing and Shanghai to an Airbus A380 service to meet that demand.
