Emirates three times daily to Mebourne

Emirates today announced that Melbourne will receive a third daily service to Dubai effective Tuesday, 3 February 2009.

The announcement comes twelve years after Emirates first launched in Australia with flights into Melbourne, and since then the airline has facilitated significant passenger growth into both Victoria and Australia.

Dean Cleaver, Emirates Sales Manager for Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Northern Territory said: “The introduction of a third daily frequency will provide much-needed capacity to cater to the increasing demand for our network that now includes over 100 destinations world-wide.”

“We are delighted to be able to provide our customers with more options from Melbourne; an additional daily non-stop service to Dubai; faster and convenient connections to Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and better connections to India and Pakistan.”

Victorian Premier John Brumby welcomed the announcement, saying: “Since its launch in 1996, Emirates has made a valuable contribution to the Victorian economy, boosting overseas tourism, creating jobs and investing in local sponsorships.”  “The increased service to Melbourne reflects Emirates’ ongoing commitment to Australia and is great news for all Victorians.”

Gregory Hywood, CEO of Tourism Victoria, also welcomed the announcement from Emirates, which comes after Melbourne Airport recently reported an increase of nearly two million passengers in the last financial year.

“With a third daily service from Emirates, passenger numbers will increase yet again, bringing significant gains for Victorians,” he said.  “The local tourism industry can look forward to receiving an extra 1700 inbound business and travel passengers per week, whilst Victorians travelling overseas can enjoy better connections and increased departure time options.”

Emirates will operate the new non-stop service with it’s its state-of-the-art Airbus A340-500, offering 12 luxurious private suites in First class, 42 seats in Business class and generous space for 204 passengers in Economy. The new flight will provide an additional 258 seats per day to and from the Victorian capital.

Passengers in all classes will enjoy meals prepared by gourmet chefs, award-winning service from its international cabin crew recruited from over 100 countries around the world, as well as Emirates’ cutting-edge ice (information, communication, entertainment) system, which offers a selection of over 600 channels of entertainment on demand, as well as the ability to send and receive email and text messages from personal in-seat entertainments systems.
