Encore at Wynn Las Vegas to close three days a week
In a further sign of Sin City’s struggles to rebound from the Covid pandemic, Encore at Wynn Las Vegas is reducing its operating hours.
It is going to a Thursday to Sunday schedule.
The revised hours begin from 19 October.
"The five-day, four-night schedule will continue indefinitely until consumer demand for Las Vegas increases," the company said.
It means guests are able to check in from 2pm on Thursdays, and final check out will be noon on Mondays.
The Poker Room at Encore will temporarily shift to Wynn Las Vegas and operate as normal seven days a week.
All other facilities at Encore including restaurants will operate within the new days of operation.
"We have not yet determined the number of employees who will be furloughed as a result of the reduction in operating hours," a Wynn Resorts spokesperson said in a statement.
The hotel has more than 2,000 rooms, and rates are down by more than 50% for mid-week stays at the moment.
This is uncharted territory for Las Vegas’ tourism industry with almost zero convention business, hospitality expert David Schwartz told news outlet KLAS.
"With most conventions being on hiatus, we don’t have a lot of mid-week occupancy, so it makes sense to close hotels, or even the entire resort during the week."
"If the current conditions continue, we could see more properties do this."
