Euro’s a mystery to holidaymakers
Half of UK travellers are unable to recognise euro notes, according to a visual recognition survey of foreign bank notes.
The poll of 1,000 holidaymakers found that 49% mistook the euro for the dinar used in Croatia.
Almost a third failed to check foreign currency exchange rates and risk losing out financially, the Post Office travel research showed.
The Post Office expects the sales of euros to rise by 15% this year to be worth £1.5 billion, three years after its introduction.
Post Office head of travel services Hugh Stacey said: “With euros dominating UK foreign currency sales, we are surprised that there is such low recognition of the notes amongst UK holidaymakers.
“Before travelling to any destination we would strongly recommend that holidayamkers familiarise themselves with foreign notes and exchange rates to avoid confusionwhen dealing withmoney overseas.”
