Eurostar terminal evacuated
Eurostar’s terminal in Paris was evacuated yesterday afternoon after a passenger allegedly tried to board a train to London with part of a WWII bomb.
Other passengers were cleared from the Gare du Nord hub at around 3pm and check-in was halted, causing some people to miss their train.
Check-in resumed shortly before 5pm after passengers were told there had been a controlled explosion of the Second World War relic.
A Eurostar spokesman said: “Occasionally, passengers try and bring war relics back from the sites in northern France and Flanders.
“We ask travellers not to do this, because when they do, they are picked up by the security machines and the station has to be evacuated as a precaution.
“This was the case on Sunday, which cause a knock-on effect of limited delays to a small number of trains.”
