Expedia boss Khosrowshahi reportedly selected as new Uber CEO
Ride hailing giant Uber Technologies Inc has made a high-profile pick for its next CEO.
The Uber board has chosen Expedia Inc CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, the New York Times reported Sunday, but has yet to publicly confirm the appointment pending an announcement to Uber employees.
Although he has a track record of delivering profits while driving growth through targeted acquisitions, Khosrowshahi was not touted as a potential chief executive.
Khosrowshahi has been at the helm of Expedia for 12 years.
He has overseen a series of big billion-dollar acquisitions for Expedia including home sharing platform HomeAway Inc and Orbitz Worldwide Inc.
Expedia posted net income of $281.8 million in 2016 on turnover of nearly $8.8 billion.
Both Uber and Expedia Inc declined to comment.
Khosrowshahi has got the nod ahead of big hitters Jeffrey Immelt, the former chief of General Electric and Hewlett Packard CEO Meg Whitman.
Whitman was thought to be frontrunner but ultimately there were disagreements with the Uber board over certain issues including what influence former CEO Travis Kalanick would have.
Kalanick is currently embroiled in a lawsuit with major Uber shareholder Benchmark.
