More than 3,000 bookings were made through a second cruise for £1 offer, according to MSC Cruises.
The promotion ran between November 28 to December 14 enabling a second passenger to cruise for £1 when the first passenger paid full brochure price on 2010 sailings.
The offer was available on all ten ships in the fleet, including MSC Magnifica, which is to be showcased in Southampton on February 26 prior to being launched in Hamburg on March 6.
UK and Ireland managing director Giulio Libutti said: “This is the second year MSC Cruises has offered the ‘sail for a pound’ deal and we had no doubt in our minds that it would receive strong feedback and interest.
“The ‘sail for a pound’ offer generated a huge volume of enquiries from potential first time cruisers, as well as ‘regular’ cruises and repeat customers and has helped MSC Cruises achieve a 50% increase in revenue this year.
“This proves that MSC Cruises is becoming well recognised in the UK and Irish markets and we are continuing to attract more passengers.”
Product and operations director Oliviero Morelli added: “Our reservations team were constantly manning the phones and we had to bring extra staff in to help cope with demand.”
