FAA fining Frontier Airlines over incomplete onboard medical kits
The Federal Aviation Administration plans to hit Frontier Airlines with a $474,000 civil penalty for operating flights without sufficient medical supplies onboard.
The FAA says Frontier was non-compliant on hundreds of flights.
The agency said 11 aircraft were short of either injectable epinephrine or atropine, or both, between June and July 2017.
When Frontier became aware the kits were incomplete, it still continued to operate the aircraft as normal, The FAA said.
FAA officials allege Frontier operated the aircraft on more than 700 flights in full knowledge the medical kits were inadequate, and before the FAA approved an exemption.
The airline said the problem resulted from a shortage of some medical supplies at the time, and plans to contest the fine.
"There was a national shortage of certain medication in 2017 and Frontier was supplied with medical kits that were not clearly identified as being deficient. We corrected the issue within days, and medical kits currently in use are fully compliant," Frontier said in a statement.
