Female solo travel on the rise in Southeast Asia
A new report by TripAdvisor says solo travel among females in Southeast Asia is on the rise.
Just days ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8, TripAdvisor’s Women’s Travel Survey surveyed almost 10,000 females globally and over 400 in Southeast Asia.
It found 48% of women in Southeast Asia have taken lone travels before, up from 36% a year ago.
It also says 79% of women have travelled or plan to take a solo trip this year.
Safety remained the most important consideration when on the road, with a big majority of women planning to avoid going out late at night (71%), and 42% try to avoid behaving like a tourist.
It found over 60% of women like to travel because of the independence and freedom it offers.
The most popular Asian destinations for solo female travelers were Bangkok, Singapore, Siem Reap and Bali.
In India, a separate survey by HolidayIQ showed that solo women travelers spend 15% more on average than their male counterparts, showing a significant jump in recreational spending capacity, the survey said.
