Fiji fare frenzy
SYDNEY – The launch of V Australia flights to Fiji today signalled a fare war on the Sydney-Nadi route.
Air Pacific has a Fiji Frenzy return fare of A$400, including taxes.
This fare is on sale until January 5, 2010 and may be used for travel between January 19 and September 16, 2010. Blackout periods apply.
V Australia’s special introductory fares start at A$199 one way on the Internet, inclusive of taxes.
Today’s V Australia flight marks the beginning of new services which will add an additional 181 seats a day between Sydney and Nadi and will further complement the current flights from Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide to Fiji, operated by Virgin Blue group sister airline, Pacific Blue.
V Australia executive general manager, Scott Swift, said, “Today’s launch signals the start of more options for travellers from Australia, with more seats in the market, more competitive pricing and more product range.
“V Australia’s full service Business and Premium Economy products are tailor made for the conference and incentive market which will undoubtedly prove a catalyst for an increase in the top end leisure travel market to this region.â€
The extra flights will further boost visitor arrivals to Fiji which have been rebounding strongly in the second half of the year.
International visitor arrivals for September reached 54,981, eclipsing the 52,597 figure recorded in September 2008 – an increase of 4.5 per cent.
Tourism Fiji CEO Josefa Tuamoto attributed much of the growth to three key factors: a third consecutive record breaking month from the Australian market, an 11.1 percent increase in New Zealand visitors and a strong surge from the EU where figures improved by 20.3 percent.
“The direct Pacific Blue services ex-Adelaide and Melbourne have obviously had an impact on the Australian market and the advent of both the new Air Pacific, V Australia and Jetstar services bode extremely well for Fiji into 2010,†said Tuamoto.
