Fiji Visitors Bureau looks to the future

Sunday, 28 Jun, 2007 0

Fiji Visitors Bureau’s Chairman of the Board, Patrick Wong sadi today that while the resignation of the Fiji Visitors Bureau’s Chief Executive, Viliame Gavoka was a loss, it would not affect the recovery programme now in place to increase visitor numbers into Fiji.

He said that the Bureau, working closely with the Tourism Action Group and other tourism industry stakeholders has continued to introduce marketing initiatives that have maintained visitor arrivals despite the security concerns and financial constraints they have had to face over the past six months.

Wong also announced that the Bureau was fortunate to have Cherrill Watson as  Director of Marketing and that she would be taking over the role of CEO in the interim, ensuring continuity and momentum.

He also said that she has shown strong leadership in directing our marketing programmes that have been instrumental in moving our country towards recovery.

The Board was currently considering a replacement for Mr. Gavoka, Wong said, but was also considering a “think tank” drawn from the private sector.

“While the Board is responsible for providing an overall direction for the Bureau, the ‘think tank’ could meet regularly to provide input on immediate issues affecting the industry and in many ways it would be an extension of TAG, but smaller.”

“There is a vast amount of talent in the private sector and having access to this talent, would broaden the Bureau’s marketing efforts.”
