Flight crew member discovered with loaded firearm at airport
Airport security screeners discovered a loaded firearm at a security checkpoint at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
It was in the possession of a female flight crew member, who has been cited, the Transportation Security Administration said.
The loaded 9 mm pistol had one in the chamber.
The woman, who has not been named, was issued a citation.
The employee’s airline has also not been named.
The citation could lead to a fine of $15,000.
“This was a good catch on the part of our TSA officers as it addressed a possible insider threat situation,” said John Busch, the TSA federal security director for Washington national Airport.
“Individuals who work on the secure side of airports are not allowed to bring prohibited items, especially firearms.”
“We are always on alert for any employees who may have possible bad intentions.”
