Flights cancelled as San Francisco hit by storm
Hundreds of flights to and from San Francisco Airport were cancelled and delayed yesterday as storms hit California.
More than an inch an hour of rainfall hit San Francisco and winds gusts of 140mph (225km/h) were recorded in the Sierra Nevada mountains.
More than 220,000 people were left without power and flooding has closed major motorways in the area, delayed public transport, and shut ferry services.
The National Weather Service said this is the strongest storm northern California has seen in nearly five years.
