Flybe revenues down as airline deals with ‘legacy issues’
Flybe says it’s still addressing a few ‘legacy issues’ as the airline reports revenues are down compared to this time last year.
UK revenue is down 11.3%, from £156.9m in the first quarter of 2013 to £139.1m this year.
But passenger revenue per seat is up 9.5%. Load factors were also up to 75.8% from 66.5% last year.
The airline, which recently re-launched wth purple livery, has also added a number of new routes with a new Flyshuttle service offering a ‘hop on and off’ service between Jersey and Aberdeen, via Southampton and Leeds Bradford from October.
16 new routes have been launched for Winter 2015, including five new London City routes.
The airline is starting a service between Birmingham and Berlin Tegel airport and from East Midlands to Aberdeen.
It is also re-establishing a daily service between Exeter and Newcastle from October 26, together with winter ski routes to Geneva from Cardiff and Inverness from December 20.
Flybe said further routes being actively considered.
Flybe introduced Paypal in June as an alternative form of payment on Flybe.com .
The airline said the continuing decline in the domestic Finnish passenger market had resulted in continuing revenue weakness in the scheduled flying operation but that it was working with its joint venture partner, Finnair, to address this as soon as possible.
Saad Hammad, chief executive officer, said: "We have launched a number of new routes and products, re-launched our brand and announced a number of exciting strategic developments with new partners.
"Our plans to address the few remaining legacy issues in the business, especially the grounded E195 aircraft and the loss making scheduled flying business in Finland, are progressing and I look forward to providing further updates in due course."
