Forget Bali, try Busan
SEOUL – Government workers in Korea are being urged to stay closer to home this summer.
Finance minister Yoon Jeung-hyun has recommended all public servants spend their holidays within the country and urged the tourism authorities to develop attractive sites and upgrade services on the domestic front.
“The recovery of domestic demand such as consumption and investment in the private sector is the key to maintaining the economic recovery trend into the second half of the year,†said Yoon.
“We will consider coming up with measures to convert the overseas consumption into domestic consumption and boost the local demand,†he said.
Other ministries have started their own stay-in-Korea holiday plans. Yoon said the idea could become a government-wide campaign.
