Former United executive plans to launch new LCC
A former United Airlines executive wants to launch another low fare carrier in the US.
Andrew Levy is United’s former chief financial officer and also helped to establish Allegiant Travel Co.
He says there is room in the market for another low cost carrier and will focus on less competitive secondary cities.
"We think the opportunity exists for a real high-quality, highly reliable, extremely low fare, basic transportation service," Levy said.
Levy is touting a quality service while maintaining competitive low fares.
He won’t be starting completely from scratch.
Last year Levy purchased Florida based XTRA Airways Inc, a charter operator which has a valid air operator certificate.
It will be transformed into a scheduled airline and will likely operate Boeing 737 jets.
Levy expects to begin operations later this year or in 2020 with a fleet of five leased aircraft.
No details of proposed routes have been disclosed yet.
