Fourth largest convention center keeps growing
The world’s largest aquarium in Atlanta recently got even bigger with the opening of a US$110 million dolphin exhibit, but it’s only one example of how the South’s most famous city is adding attractions and convention-friendly amenities.
Six new hotels have opened in the past five years. Three more are planned to open this year, while at the same time, US$200 million in renovations was completed on hotels in the city’s downtown convention corridor.
Next year, the Center for Civil & Human Rights, and the College Football Hall of Fame are set to open.
They are just part of a $7.7 billion urban revitalization project in downtown.
“If you haven’t been here in the past ten years, then you haven’t been to Atlanta,” Lauren Jarrell, director of communications for the city’s CVB, told smartmeetings.com.
Atlanta already has the fourth largest convention center in the US and backers boast it can handle meetings of all sizes.
The largest meeting space is the 3.9 million-square-foot Georgia World Congress Center in downtown. It has 1.4 million square feet of meeting space, a dozen exhibit halls and other space.
