Frontier, Spirit Airlines hiking fees for holiday travel

Wednesday, 05 Nov, 2015 0
Ultra-low-fare carrier Frontier Airlines is joining rival Spirit in hiking bag fees for holiday travel.

Frontier’s first checked bag fees go up by $5 to $10, depending when and where it is paid – online or at the check-in counter.

Denver-based Frontier is adding the holiday travel ‘surcharge’ for flights from November 19 through January 5, 2016.

The carrier will also extend the fee increases to other busy travel periods including Spring Break and during summer from June 9 through August 16.

Spirit was the first carrier to tack on a holiday season fee last year and this year are again going up by $2 from December 16 through January 4, 2016.

Spirit said the move was to motivate flyers to pack lighter during the busy travel season, which ultimately improves comfort and punctuality.
