GBTA backs hotel industry’s ‘Safe Stay’ campaign

Tuesday, 02 Jun, 2020 0

The Global Business Travel Association is throwing its weight behind the new ‘Safe Stay’ campaign launched by the American Hotel and Lodging Association.

GBTA members have signalled their support for the initiative which sets out standardized levels of cleaning, social interactions, and workplace protocols.

As states reopen and the ability to travel improves, GBTA will join the AHLA in lobbying government officials to support the guidelines as a minimum level standard.

"GBTA is working with buyers and supplier members from all the travel verticals to find suitable solutions to manage the recovery following the pandemic. Each global hotel brand has their own reopening plan, but to restore consumer confidence and corporate confidence, it is vital that this sector has a common protocol of cleaning standards," said Scott Solombrino, CEO of GBTA.

Chip Rogers, AHLA CEO said: "Safe Stay is an industry-wide effort that will ensure greater transparency and confidence throughout the entire hotel experience and we appreciate GBTA for its support."

The corporate travel market is key for hotel chains’ recovery prospects, even though the MICE market will likely never be the same again after the Covid-19 pandemic.

‘Stay Safe’ calls for high-grade cleaning products with a greater concentration of bacteria-killing ingredients, in rooms, common areas and back-of-house, and strict social distancing practices to reduce person-to-person contact.
