German Tourist Board appoints Australian representative

SYDNEY – The German National Tourist Board has appointed Sue Marsh Ink as its sales and marketing representative in Australia.

The Sydney CBD-based office will be headed up by Virginia Haddon as director and German national Maike Bates as manager.

Major themes for promotion in 2009 will include Active Lifestyle Holidays – Walking and cycling in Germany with 2010 as the year of European Capital of Culture – The Ruhr Region – Towns and Cities of Culture in Germany.

2009 will see the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the 90th anniversary of BAUHAUS and the 250th anniversary of the death of Georg Frederick Haendel.

The German National Tourist Office sales and marketing team will aim to increase travel industry marketing of Germany as a destination for Australian travellers, working closely with wholesalers, the MICE market and specialist travel agencies.

Australian visitors to Germany increased by 2.5 per cent in 2008 to a total of 230,990 arrivals.
