Glasgow Airport reopens following security alert on easyJet flight
Passengers travelling from Glasgow Airport were delayed by up to 45 minutes following a security alert involving an incoming easyJet flight from Gatwick.
The runway was closed for 40 minutes after crew onboard easyJet flight EZY883 alerted authorities to a suspicious package at around 10.25 on Tuesday.
Passengers tweeted to say they were kept on board the aircraft for at least an hour while it was parked at an empty gate, waiting for a police inspection. Passengers were later allowed to disembark but they were kept in the terminal for a further two hours while being interviewed by the police.
Nothing suspicious was found and unconfirmed reports suggest the ‘package’ was actually a bag of fruit and veg.
A spokesman from Glasgow Airport confirmed that the incident had ended and the runway was reopened just before 11:00.
Police Scotland said it was made aware of a security incident by the flight crew.
Passengers on the aircraft were initially kept in the dark about the security incident, with crew telling them they were being held on the plane until a gate was found, but they eventually spotted the news on Twitter.
