Golf day raises much-needed funds for travel charity

Tuesday, 06 May, 2015 0

This week’s Family Holiday Association/TravelMole Golf Day raised more than £8,500 for the charity.

Played at the salubrious Kingswood Club in Surrey, almost 60 golfers played an immaculate course in sunny but windy conditions.

TravelMole and sponsors Citybond Suretravel, Cigna, Cellet, International Passenger Protection and Travel Insurance Facilities all combined to make the day a huge success.

The wining team Allianz scored a remarkable 96 points using the Stableford scoring system and the individual winner was Gary Moor with 43 points.

Longest drive winner was Dan Jackson of Exodus, who also collected some donations for his company’s Nepal fund from the very generous competitors.

All the money raised at the golf day will help the FHA achieve the ambitious target of assisting 4,000 struggling families in 2016, which would be an increase of 40% on current levels.

The charity is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year and since 1975 it’s helped 120,000 struggling parents, children and young people enjoy a desperately-needed break.

The families are referred to the FHA by professionals in the community who are best placed to identify those who will benefit the most, such as teachers, social workers, health visitors and other charities including Shelter and Barnardo’s.

The families are often dealing with issues of severe and sudden illness in the family, bereavement, disability, mental health and abuse. The holidays can be anything from a simple day out to a few days in a caravan at the British seaside.

Forty years ago, the founders started the charity by asking 10 of their friends for £50 each. Now, to build on their idea, they’re asking 500 friends for £500 each and so far 147 have responded positively to the plea. For more information on this and the charity please go to 5004500
