Green Globe launches new Responsible Tourism website
Green Globe 21 has launched a website to allow its members to sell certified responsible tourism products online.
The organisation launched the site to coincide with the UN’s Earth Summit in Johannesburg. The site is called ResponsibleTourism.com. Green Globe said the aim of the site is to enable its travel provider members to sell products that adhere to Green Globe’s certified sustainability standards and promote socially responsible tourism. Agents will earn commission on bookings.
Green Globe, which launched an ecotourism standard with the Australian Ecotourism Association earlier this year is incorporating the World Tourism Organisation’s Global Code of Ethics into its system. The organisation said its goal is to encourage tourism suppliers and travellers themselves to act in a responsible way towards destination communities and their inhabitants. Green Globe said the code is particularly important “to ensure that tourism to developing countries helps improve living standards and reduce poverty, without disrupting local culture and tradition”.
Green Globe 21 Chairman Geoffrey Lipman said: “The Earth Summit focused on ways to improve the plight of people in the developing world – responsible tourism can be an important contributor and we hope to encourage its growth.”
The website is powered by TraveLLusions, the browser-based operator system created by Illusions Online, to deliver real time online bookings. The site is being managed and marketed by Travel Transaction Processors (TTP).
