Growth in tourism to Namibia
Improved infrastructure – due to extensive upgrades last year – and the fact that the international community considers Namibia a stable, peaceful destination, are two major factors which contributed to the growth in foreign visitor arrivals to Namibian Wildlife Resorts (NWR) over December and January.
This is the opinion of NWR sales and administration supervisor, Kenny Nguvauva, who says he remains optimistic that this increase will continue into 2002 at the organisation’s 22 resorts throughout Namibia.
The statistics released for the period December 1, 2001 to January 6, 2002, amounted to 9 540 bookings, compared to 8 463 during the same period in 2000/2001.
For the festive season, local travellers made up 27 420 in 2001 compared to 21 330 during the previous year. Foreign visitors during the season amounted to 3 741, compared to 2 263 in 2000.
