Hawaii, US Virgin Islands added to New York quarantine list
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s office announced changes to the state’s quarantine list.
Two new states have been added – Hawaii and South Dakota, along with the US Virgin Islands.
It has also removed four states which have seen the rate of infection fall below the threshold.
These are New Mexico, Rhode Island, Ohio and Alaska.
Travelers from states on the list must quarantine for 14 days on arrival in New York State or face a heavy fine.
Any state with a positive test rate above 10 per 100,000 people is added to the quarantine list based on a seven-day rolling average.
There are now 33 states and territories on the list including California, Florida, Nevada, Texas and Tennessee.
"New York went from one of the worst situations in the country, to an example for the rest of the nation to follow. Our numbers continue to remain low and steady, which shows this virus will respond to an approach based on science, not politics," Cuomo said.
"In order to protect this progress, we must keep up our efforts – we cannot go back to the hell we experienced a few months ago."
Travelers from states on the quarantine list going to neighboring New Jersey and Connecticut must also self-quarantine.
