Hawaiian Airlines aims to restart Fukuoka flights
Hawaiian Airlines intends to expand its international network by resuming service to the Japanese city of Fukuoka.
The carrier is planning to restart service with four flights a week from Honolulu if it can secure the necessary flight slots.
It is still subject to approvals from US and Japanese regulators.
It plans to deploy Airbus A330 aircraft featuring 18 lie-flat seats on the route.
Hawaiian last operated flights to Fukuoka in 2014.
The airline seeks to fill a gap after Delta Air Lines ended nonstop flights to Fukuoka this week.
"We are excited that the discontinuation of service to Hawaii this month will be short-lived. "Hawaiian’s new service will ensure that our Hawaii exchange relationship and opportunities to travel abroad will be unaffected," said Fukuoka Prefecture spokesperson Masanori Hashimoto.
Fukuoka Prefecture and Hawaii have been sister states for more than 35 years.
Hawaiian’s Japan network includes nonstop flights to both Haneda and Narita in Tokyo, Osaka and Sapporo.
