Hawaiian Airlines halts South Korea flights

Friday, 27 Feb, 2020 0

Hawaiian Airlines is suspending its Honolulu-Incheon route due to the spike in coronavirus cases in South Korea.

The nonstop service will be halted from March 2 until April 30.

"We believe a temporary service suspension is prudent given the escalation of COVID-19 in South Korea and the impact the illness has had on demand," said airline president Peter Ingram.

Hawaiian currently operates the service five times a week and is contacting impacted customers to offer alternatives including refunds.

"We will continue to closely monitor the situation and extend our support for public health efforts to contain the virus," Ingram added.

Passengers with booked tickets on Hawaiian codeshare flights to or from South Korea airports will be given travel waivers.

Delta Air Lines is also reducing service to South Korea.

Delta is suspending its Minneapolis-Incheon route this weekend through April, and us cutting back on daily services from Atlanta, Detroit and Seattle to five a week.

South Korea has recorded the most cases of COVID-19 outside China.
