Healthy Passenger numbers from Australia to Austria.
Until quite recently, Austrian Airlines flew into and out of Sydney providing passengers with a seamless service direct to the heart of Central Europe.
Economies of scale have caused Austrian to reconsider the profitability of servicing the Australian route and like other European carriers before them have directed their focus to other more profitable markets.
Their pulling out of Australia was not caused by capacity, the flights were full. However, like all Australian/European routs, it’s a question of yield.
Now code sharing with Thai, the trip is no less arduous, although an aircraft change is now required in Bangkok, but the national carrier’s absence in the Australian marketplace has, in part, had a slight effect on Australian arrivals into Austria.
The Austrian National Tourist Office in Australia, headed by Astrid Mullholland-Licht, [pictured at actb] is still pleased with the business being generated from Australia and is confident the slight drop in arrivals will be compensated for by additional options.
“Australia remains the 3rd largest overseas market for Austria” Mullholland–Licht said from ACTB in Vienna last week.”
“From Australia, we’re still very well serviced with flights, especially with Emirates. We’re hopeful they will increase capacity from Dubai with a double daily service into Vienna in the future.” she continued.
ANTO in Australia works closely with its airline partners and has developed a very strong relationship with Emirates while maintaining its fraternal association with Austrian.
Over the next 12 months, the association with Emirates will strengthen with several major joint initiatives in the pipeline.
Major programmes targeting the arts community, the ski fraternity and gastronomes will feature throughout 2008 and continue into 2009.
