Heathrow could divert flights to ease border control overcrowding
Heathrow Airport is considering the drastic step of diverting aircraft to other airports due to long border checkpoint queues. Travellers have experienced waits of up to six hours in the past few months and with international travel opening next week, Heathrowe fears the situation could get worse.
It has contingency plans to hold passengers on planes or even divert flights to other airports as a last resort. Heathrow is calling on Border Force to automate passport checks for green list countries to prevent excessive, ‘unnecessary and completely avoidable queues.’
