"Heyy Babyy!" cornerstone of NSW’s plans to attract more Indian visitors
NSW Minister for Tourism, Matt Brown, last week announced State Government plans to harness the massive growth expected from the Indian travel market.
Speaking at the Tourism NSW annual Partnership NSW industry briefing, attended by around 250 tourism industry representatives at Star City, Mr Brown said, “India is predicted to be the fastest growing market for travel to Australia.”
“The number of Indian visitors to Australia is expected to grow by 18 per cent each year until 2016 and last year around 45,800 people from India visited NSW, spending $115 million.”
“I want us to further tap into that market, and that’s why I have asked Tourism NSW to develop the ‘Focus on India’ program aimed to increase visitation from India to this State.”
Tourism NSW is working with Qantas to bring a group of 15 to 20 senior representatives from Indian travel companies for the Focus on India program on August 17 to 24 which includes:
** A familiarisation tour to Sydney, the Blue Mountains and Port Stephens;
** A workshop with NSW tourism businesses including providing advice on working with the Indian market and one-on-one business meetings;
** Hosting the red carpet preview of the Bollywood film Heyy Babyy! which was filmed in Sydney in January; and
** A tour of the Sydney Cricket Ground including a net session with Australian cricketers.
Mr Brown said Heyy Babyy! is based on the Hollywood film, Three Men and a Baby and features five of India’s most popular stars.
“It was shot at famous tourist locations such as the Sydney Opera House and Bondi Beach as well as The Rocks, Darling Harbour and city streets,” Mr Brown said.
“I am proud to be hosting the film’s preview and I welcome the many travel agents and journalists from India expected in NSW this month as part of the ‘Focus on India’ campaign.”
