Hilton to offer faster Wi-Fi for a fee
Hilton Worldwide is to launch a fee-based upgraded Wi-Fi service in some of its hotels where basic wireless Internet is free.
The group said it will provide an additional faster Wi-Fi connection in Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites and Home 2 Suites brands.
It will be rolled out in the next two months and extended to all hotels in these brands, according to Josh Weiss, vice president of brand and guest technology for Hilton.
Weiss said the move is in response to guest feedback indicating that many are willing to pay for expanded bandwidth.
The price will vary in different regions but will average at $3.95, and will be available to use on up to three devices.
Hilton still charges for basic Wi-Fi in some of its other brands and many other hotel chains offer tiered pricing for Wi-Fi such as Marriott and Hyatt Hotels.
Free, reliable Wi-Fi ranks at the very top of guests’ wish list in surveys with slow Internet connections one of the major causes of complaint.
"We all know that it’s one of the most important amenities and we’re trying to do this in a way that not only acknowledges guests who want faster speeds but also the prevalence of multiple devices," Weiss said.
