Holiday Inn’s Commonwealth Games star
Holiday Inn Penrith Panthers staffer, Cheryl Webb will be competing in Melbourne for Australia at the Commonwealth Games in the walking marathon. This is a race over 20 kilometres, something Cheryl has been doing in international competitions since 2004.
Cheryl qualified for the Commonwealth Games back in January, when she beat Olympic Games gold medalist Jane Saville by more than 43 seconds in the women’s 10,000m walk with a time of 46:46.74.
She maintained a four minute, 40 second pace throughout the race to topple the world number one and gain a place in the Australian side, making her a hot medal contender in March.
Cheryl works in hotel reservations, although she’s currently devoting much of her time to preparing for the Games. She joined the hotel not long after her first World Walking competition in 2004, and has since competed in the World Championships in 2005. After the Games, Cheryl will be heading over to Spain with the Australian team to compete in the World Walking Cup in May.
Cheryl’s training schedule includes 15-30 kilometres of walking each day, as well as a five kilometre run and gym sessions three times a week.
