Holiday park operator unveils ‘cool’ caravan concept

British holiday park company Away Resorts claims to have reinvented the ‘humble caravan’ with a new concept in affordable family accommodation.

After two years in development and extensive customer research, it has created a boutique-style caravan called The Tribeca.

The new brand will launch at Easter on two of its parks – Whitecliff Bay on the Isle of Wight and Tattershall Lakes Country Park.

In specially-created family enclaves called the Tribeca Village, the caravans have been designed to have a boutique hotel feel, with industrial-style lighting and wall coverings, but with soft, plush furnishings.

There is a central living area with the adults’ bedroom at one side and the children’s bedroom at the other, both with ensuites.

Kids rooms have bunk-beds with dens underneath and screens and power points for charging gadgets.

Adult rooms have a king-size bed, stand-alone bath-tub, and a flatscreen TV viewable from the bed.

The Tribeca has its own deck and some come with a private hot tub.

"The timber-effect walls and huge windows create a jungle feel and the astro-turf flooring carries on the theme of bringing the outside in," said the group.

Inspired by the loft-style apartments of New York’s trendy Tribeca district, Away Resorts CEO Carl Castledine personally visited every caravan manufacturer and walked through every model ever produced in the last 15 years to create the new caravan.

"More than 51 million nights are spent in the UK in caravans each year, a figure I suspect will rise as the impact of Brexit kicks in over the coming years," he said.

"The caravan industry contributes more than £6bn a year to the UK economy, so it’s got no shortage of fans. But, it’s never really been cool, until now."
