Hong Kong Sevens travel impact revealed
Ahead of this weekend’s 2013 Hong Kong Rugby Sevens, Amadeus and ForwardKeys have unveiled key travel data trends, based on global air reservations, that highlight the impact of the tournament on long-haul travel to the city and the opportunities for Hong Kong’s leisure industry.
The data shows that the Hong Kong Sevens draws the biggest influx of long-haul travellers into Hong Kong every year for a single event.
Top trends identified include:
The USA leads as the top source country, followed by the UK and Australia. However, Russia and Italy are the biggest growth contributors, with outstanding year-on-year growth rates of 82% and 42% respectively
Europe is the single biggest source region for traffic to the Hong Kong Sevens, accounting for 43% of total expected long-haul arrivals; Central and South America could increase its relevance as a source region, showing the largest year-on-year growth in bookings (10.1%)
Travellers are extending their stay beyond the event; presenting big opportunities for the hospitality and retail industry in Hong Kong
