How to avoid your estate agent on holiday

Saturday, 12 Jul, 2004 0

If you want to avoid bumping in to estate agents on holiday, avoid Greece. And if the thought of seeing your bank manager in his swimming trunks fills you with dread, you had better avoid France.

That is the advice being given by the online travel company Expedia, which has asked UK travellers who they would least like to bump into, and identified 10 possible destinations to be aware of in this respect.

In fact, the chances of bumping into an acquaintance on holiday are greater than many would think; some 80 per cent of people have met someone they knew while on vacation.

Among some of the key trends identified by Expedia are the following:

  • Greece is the most popular destination for estate agents (12 per cent);
  • One in five accountants will head to the United States this year;
  • Ten per cent of bank managers are heading for France;
  • 18 per cent of tax inspectors will stay in the UK; and
  • More than one in five taxi drivers (22 per cent) will go to Spain this year.

Expedia questioned 1,000 people from the following professions: accountants, bank managers, bus drivers, estate agents, hairdressers, police officers, schoolteachers, tax inspectors, taxi drivers, traffic wardens and undertakers.
