IATA to hold fuel crisis talks
IATA will discuss the Heathrow fuel shortage tomorrow in a bid to ease rising tensions between foreign airlines and airport operator BAA.
Foreign airlines have accused BAA of discrimination by allowing UK carriers to fill up with more fuel, a policy which American Airlines said has forced it to introduce a £3 surcharge on Heathrow flights.
According to reports, the aim of the meeting will be to ensure all airlines are treated the same.
An AA spokesman said: “We are hopeful that a resolution will be reached that will be less discriminatory to foreign carriers and which enables operations at Heathrow to continue with little or no impact on the customers of any airlines.”
BAA have said Heathrow-based must be given priority to avoid potential gridlock at the airport.
