IHG: “We’re building recovery in Thailandâ€
Visitor numbers to Bangkok may be down (or up depending on which set of figures you look at) but InterContinental Hotels is looking forward to good times ahead.
The group plans to double its growth in Thailand over the next few years.
This follows the recent signing of Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road, the first Hotel Indigo to launch in Southeast Asia, and the establishment of a regional office in Bangkok.
IHG is optimistic about its growth prospects for the Thai market.
“We’ve signed deals for Holiday Inn Express and Hotel Indigo – the first deals inked for both brands in Southeast Asia. To launch these new brands in Bangkok is very telling of our confidence in this market,†said Jan Smits, managing director, IHG Asia Australasia.
The two IHG hotels – InterContinental Bangkok and Holiday Inn Bangkok – were closed for 36 days during the political upheaval and violent protests in May.
Smits acknowledged that it has been a particularly challenging time for the industry. “We are in the process of building recovery,†he said.
