In-store music ‘makes staff more productive’

In-store music helps holidaymakers to ‘get in the mood’ and agency staff to be more productive, according to research.

95% of travel staff felt that in-store music creates a better working environment while 99% said that retail stores playing music tend to be more modern and appealing places to shop.

51% of customers said they would spend more time browsing in a store playing music while 66% said that playing music removes any awkward silences while shopping for a holiday.

The survey of more than 2000 staff and customers in the travel sector was carried out by music licensing company PPL.

STA Travel UK marketing director Laurence Bresh said: "We find having music playing in our stores creates a relaxed and informal environment for both customers and staff.

"Having a range of music playing in our 50 UK stores creates a great atmosphere to allow time to chat to our travel experts and ensure our customers have all the tools necessary to create their ideal itinerary."
