Inbound Aussie numbers up
It appears from the latest stats from the ABS that the Ashes Test series has boosted the number of UK tourists visiting Australia for a summer holiday by 10%.
The latest figures show a record 472,200 foreign visitors to Australia in December, up 3% on 2005, with an extra 24,400 visitors from the UK including the Barmy Army attending their whitewash defeat at the hands of the Aussies, giving an increase of 10.2% on UK tourists in December 2005.
The short-term visitor arrivals figures show the biggest increase in tourists from Korea, up over 22% on 2005 and tourists from China increasing over 10%, but Japan and Taiwan down over 8%.
Some Kiwis stayed at home, down a minor 0.1% .
