Increased capacity for Australia – Taiwan route

Air passenger capacity between Australia and Taiwan will increase significantly under a new agreement between the two countries.

Capacity will increase from 4000 to 5000 in October this year and to 6000 from October 2007 under the new arrangements, according to Australian Government Minister for Transport and Regional Services, Warren Truss.

“Under the new arrangements, opportunities to attract new services will be available to Australia’s main gateway points – Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and to all of Australia’s regional gateways,” he said.

Mr Truss said that all capacity or frequency restrictions on services between Taiwan and Australia’s regional international airports such as Cairns, Darwin and Adelaide would be lifted.

“These arrangements are in line with the Australian Government’s policy of seeking aviation arrangements that provide capacity ahead of demand. The deal will allow airlines from both Australia and Taiwan to plan confidently for future services.

“Most importantly, it is hoped that the new arrangements will encourage the development of air services to and from regional Australia.”
