India confirms excise duty exemption for international flights
India’s Finance Ministry is offering airlines some relief amid spiralling jet fuel costs.
Domestic airlines operating international flights will be exempt from paying basic excise duty. Although previously exempt, there was confusion last week, after the government imposed a special additional excise duty or duty on jet fuel exports.
After oil companies believed airlines would have to pay the 11% basic excise duty for fuel, the finance ministry clarified this is not the case.
