India’s niche operators head Down Under

SYDNEY – The Adventure Tour Operators Association of India (ATOAI) is an association comprising of adventure tour operators involved in a range of activities India-wide.

This month a contingent of 11 adventure operators from India will be visiting Australia and New Zealand for a series of roadshows.

The ATOAI, supported by the Ministry of Tourism and India Tourism Sydney, will be showcasing their products in a series of roadshows in Auckland (September 7), Wellington (September 8), Melbourne (September (10), Sydney (September 14), and Brisbane (September 16).

Krishna R Arya, regional director of Tourism India, Australia, said that the growth of tourist arrivals to India from Australia in 2008 (148,055) was up by nine percent from the previous year.

A total of 30,266 tourists from New Zealand arrived in India in 2008 indicating a growth of 10.06 percent over the previous year.

The number of visas issued to Australians in March 2009 increased by 21.5 percent. Growth in June 2009 was 14 percent compared to June 2008.

“With an intensive and all round promotional activity plan for the next 12 months, we are hoping for a considerable increase of tourist arrivals from Australia and New Zealand to India” Arya added.
