Investigation into cruise ship pool death

Police are investigating the death of a man found at the bottom of a pool on the Caribbean Princess cruise ship.

Stephen Osakue, 37 apparently drowned in the ship’s Neptune Pool after being found early on June 14.

Other guests were questioned by police when the cruise ship docked in Fort Lauderdale.

The cruise line said Osakue, an Air Force major, was found unresponsive in the pool at around 5am.

The ship’s medical team could not revive him and Princess said the death appears to be accidental.

According to reports he had been drinking at a pool deck party and at the Skywalker Lounge the night before.

According to the Broward Medical Examiner’s Office, Osakue’s wife told police ‘they had a lot to drink’ that night but she was not present when he was thought to have drowned.

Investigations are still taking place including a toxicology test.

The Caribbean Princess was on its last full day of a week-long Western Caribbean cruise.
